Mental Capacity Consult is formed by a group of mental health and social care professionals who share a common view that mental capacity assessments should meet the aspiration, intent, and purpose of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Mental Capacity Consult has recently appointed Peterkin Ofori, a Barrister, Registered Mental Health Nurse, Best Interest Assessor under Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard, Mental Capacity Assessor and Trainer. Peterkin has a special interest in Court of Protection work and has been called as expert witness in a number of complex Court of Protection cases where mental capacity has been an issue in dispute.

 

Peterkin Ofori (LLB, Post Grad Dip, BPTC, RMN)

Peterkin is a Lawyer, Mental Health Professional, Expert Mental Capacity Assessor/Trainer, Best Interest Assessor/Trainer, and an Expert Witness. He is currently a Director and a Consultant Lawyer at Mental Capacity Consult Ltd.

He designed, and has solely delivered Mental Capacity and Report Writing training since 2017 to Doctors, Psychologist, Solicitors, Social Workers, OTs and Nurses etc. He has also spoken at seminars and conferences for Kings Chambers, Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA), Solicitors For the Elderly (SFE), Local Authorities, and many nursing and care homes. He has many years of practical experience in assessing mental capacity and providing training.

Peterkin combines his practice, experience, and knowledge as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and a Mental Health Nurse Consultant with his legal training as a Barrister when undertaking any mental capacity assignments. He is also a member Court of Protection Practitioners Association (CoPPA), which affords him the opportunity to interact with other Barristers, Solicitors, Court of Protection Judges and other practitioners in the Court of Protection. As a Mental Capacity Assessor, Peterkin has done over 1000 assessments covering all aspects of mental capacity assessments for local authorities, Solicitors and also Court of Protection on contentious issues. His work and assessments have consistently met the high threshold expected by the Court of Protection. His role at Mental Capacity Consult includes: Providing advice to clients on all issues to do with the Mental Capacity Assessments. Offering in-house training to all the Mental Capacity Assessors and Consultants that work for Mental Capacity Consult. Managing the Mental Capacity Training provided by Mental Capacity Consult and deal with all clients to identify their mental capacity needs Streamlining clients training needs to meet their Individual and Organisational Mental Capacity training objectives. Over the years, Peterkin has established himself as the best out there when it comes to assessing mental capacity. He is now in the process of writing various academic articles to reaffirm his authority as a Mental Capacity Expert.
